[ the world's worst beach episode ]

The thing about transmigrating after dying is that you don't really experience the transmigration part. Just zap, crackle, boom you're dead here's your new infant body, have fun suffering through puberty again! So when Shang Qinghua gets this weird pulling feeling on a sort of existential level -- I dunno, kinda feels like spiritual heartburn? -- he doesn't know what's coming, just that very, very shortly thereafter, he's been yeeted from the Demon Realm and is now hurtling through the air. It's dark, and he hits a tree.

He grunts as he falls to the ground with a thud, and realizes as he braces a hand under him to sit up that it's wet. Aw, gross. He shakes the mud from his hand, tries to wipe the rest of it off on the grass, only gets it muddier, and gives up. He's still feeling kind of dizzy from the...fall? Why the fuck was he flying through the air? It's not just dark, it's kind of foggy, but even so, Shang Qinghua can tell by squinting around that he is not in the Demon Realm anymore.

For one thing, he can smell the ocean, and trees like this don't grow on that side of the Endless Abyss. Plus, the silhouette of the darkened lighthouse under the moon? Definitely not a Demon Realm feature. Not really a Human Realm feature, either, in PIDW. But other than the rocky coast ahead of him and what looks like the edge of a patchy forest around him, he can't see a whole lot. He shakes out his sleeves and snaps his fingers a few times before a pale flame flickers in his palm, dispelling some of the fog around him, but the light doesn't reach far.

"The fuck?" he mutters, shaking a few wet leaves from his shoe before taking a few steps in the direction of the lighthouse. He doesn't remember writing anything like this. "Hey, System, is this a prank? Am I being punished? I thought fixing the story was Cucumber-bro's job..."

No response. Shang Qinghua stops and knocks on the System, except...it's not there??

Unfamiliar landscape, no System -- could it be he's transmigrated again?! But before he can even begin to emotionally process that, a sound emerges from the forest behind him that sends a chill up his spine. He freezes, the flame sputtering out immediately. Okay, he doesn't know exactly what it is, but he knows what dangerous monsters sound like, he's written and encountered enough of them!
